Objective To investigate the effect of discharge readiness assessment on post-discharge rehabilitation of first-episode schizophrenia patients. Methods From October 2016 to March 2017, a total of 60 first-episode schizophrenia patients hospitalized in Sichuan Mental Health Center and met the diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia in the International Classification of Diseases, tenth edition (ICD-10) were enrolled, and were divided into two groups by random number table method, each with 30 cases. Both groups received olanzapine treatment for at least 4 weeks. Discharge services for control group were supervised by attending physician, while patients in study group were evaluated by both attending physician and Readiness for Discharge Questionnaire (RDQ) before discharge. Both groups were followed-up by telephone or outpatient clinic at the 1st month, 6th month and 12th month after discharge, respectively. Meanwhile, the post-discharge rehabilitation quality of patients was assessed by self-made questionnaires. Results After discharge, two groups had significant difference in the incidence rate of relapse and readmission, emotional problems, being incapable of taking care of themselves, self-medication withdrawal and sleep disorders (P<0.05). One month after discharge, the satisfaction degree of study group was higher than that of control group (P<0.05).Conclusion For patients with first-episode schizophrenia, discharge readiness assessment can effectively judge whether the patients have the ability of further rehabilitation after discharge.
