Objective To understand the mental health status of senior high school students after class resumption during the epidemic of COVID-19, so as to provide references for related psychological intervention. Methods A total of 149 senior high school students from a school in Shandong were recruited using stratified sampling, and all students were assessed using Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90).Results SCL-90 results revealed that there were 57 cases (38.26%) with abnormal total score (≥160) and 45 (30.20%) with abnormal number of positive items (≥43). The scores of phobia in SCL-90 scale had significant difference among students of different genders (t=-2.139, P=0.034). The SCL-90 total score (F=3.262, P=0.041), anxiety (F=4.045, P=0.020), hostility (F=3.598, P=0.030), psychoticism (F=3.573, P=0.031) scores of senior high school students of different grades had statistically significant differences. Paired comparison yielded that grade three and grade one students had statistically significant differences in SCL-90 total score (t=2.618, P=0.01), obsession (t=2.067, P=0.041), depression (t=2.513, P=0.013), anxiety (t=2.960, P<0.01), hostility (t=2.910, P<0.01), psychoticism (t=2.608, P=0.01), and additional symptoms (t=2.131, P=0.035).Conclusion The prevalence of COVID-19 has certain impact on the mental health of senior high school students, so it is of vital importance to pay close attention to the phobia of female students, furthermore, senior students are the most affected group, which is mainly related to their study.
