Objective To explore the effects of group interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) on cognitive function and social function of first-episode schizophrenics, and to provide reference for appropriate psychotherapy of schizophrenics. Methods Selected 62 cases of first-episode schizophrenia patients who met the diagnostic criteria of "International Classification of Diseases (10th Edition)" (ICD-10) in the Third People's Hospital of Foshan City from January to December 2021, and they were divided into study group and control group with 31 cases in each according to random number table method. Both groups received risperidone treatment for 8 weeks, and the study group received group IPT on this basis. Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), and Personal and Social Performance scale (PSP) were used to evaluate the patients' mental symptoms, cognitive function and social function, respectively before and after 8 weeks of treatment. Results After 8 weeks of treatment, there was no significant difference in PANSS scores between the two groups (t=0.296,P>0.05). However, the WCST and PSP scores in the study group were better than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (t=0.398;2.609;0.523,t=0.381,P<0.05). Conclusion Group IPT may have no significant effect on improving the symptoms of patients with first-episode schizophrenia, but it may help improve the cognitive and social functions of patients. |
